How do you start your day?

Do you start your day pushing the snooze button several times, oversleeping then rushing to get out the door on time?

Or do you start your day in a more mindful way?

The way you start your day will reflect in the rest of your day.

While I certainly don’t bounce out of bed at the crack of dawn, I definitely enjoy mornings, early mornings, a lot more when I start my day with awareness rather than rushing.

I like the silence and stillness of the morning. I’m lucky enough to enjoy a beautiful vista from my bedroom. It’s so lovely to notice the soft light of the morning sun streaming in, to look out at a subtropical landscape and hear the symphony of birdsong.

To be honest, it’s hard, really f&^%$* hard not to pick up my phone, first thing.

Who has “liked” or “commented on my Face Book post or Instagram photo? Has someone messaged me in the middle of the night and I must respond immediately? Maybe there is an email that I need to see right now.

None of these things are important and I know how it goes, once I start scrolling, my morning will be gone and I’ll be left with a strange feeling of emptiness.

I feel so much better if I acknowledge and enjoy the beauty and the stillness of the morning and it really sets me up for the day.

“This morning with just my coffee and no phone I sat on my deck for about a half hour breathing in the crisp air of the early morning, watching the birds fly around and trees sway with the slight breeze.”- Sharon Randall, Healing Mentor for healing from within.

Everyone’s routine is different, some will enjoy an early morning walk or run, a mindful shower or some early morning daggy dancing.

What works for you to get you ready for the rest of the day?

I guarantee it won’t be scrolling your phone.
